Bondi Small Space Big Success
When Outside Living first visited this semi-detached house in Bondi the small backyard was uninviting and not suited to family living. The owners were at a loss about how they could make the area work for them. Items on their wish list were a covered outdoor entertaining area, a BBQ and a pool.
The kitchen and living area are situated at the rear of the home which invited the introduction of bifold doors across the back of the house to create a flow out to the new covered outdoor area. The level of the yard is slightly higher than the floor level so the pool and surrounding areas are slightly raised, which not only limited excavation and the need for retaining walls, but created defined spaces, including an intimate feel to the lounge area.
The pool is fully tiled and the coping and paved areas are easy-care porcelain.
Planting along the boundaries contributes to the beach vibe. Species include Allocasia macrorrhiza, Philodendron Xanadu, Alpinia nutans with some Kalanchoe Silver Spoons for contrast.
