Love them or hate them, bugs are everywhere at this time of year and often make their way into our homes. Ants, spiders, flying ones, crawling ones, biting ones, pretty ones, scary ones ... Weird and wonderful but important for keeping our gardens alive, so think twice before using insecticides as you may be killing more than you think....

Focal Points

Imagine this space without the water feature.  Walking through the door we naturally look ahead to what we call a focal point. Focal points provide the opportunity to create a point of interest, a place to rest your eye and draws your view out into the garden.  A well selected feature can even make the garden look bigger.  

Pool Days

It's this time of year when every family thinks about having a pool for cooling off, relaxing, playing and socialising. A good pool design considers and incorporates such areas within the pool. We popped in to see a clients pool this morning and were delighted to hear how the family are enjoying the long seat with water jets, entry stairs, lighting at night and the glass window in the end of the pool where many silly faces have been pulled.

Colour Changes Perceptions

Colour choices can make a huge difference to how we perceive a space or object. Painting a new timber paling fence a dark colour will make the fence appear smaller and further away, therefore making the outdoor area seem larger. Plants will look greener, more defined and attractive against a dark blue/charcoal colour or white. Outdoor shade blinds in a dark fabric will enable our vision to focus on the view beyond rather than the fabric and light colour blinds will improve privacy during the day as our eyes focus more on the bright fabric.

Indoor Plant Summer Care

Keeping your indoor plants healthy and looking good during hot summer days can be achieved with a few simple tips; move them away from direct sunlight, water well - ideally submerge the whole pot in water for a short time to ensure the soil is thoroughly soaked, and resist fertilising as it will only cause more stress.
